Kyron Cartwright is a Friar
- Updated: April 8, 2014
Providence added a fourth member to their 2014 recruiting class on Monday night as Compton (CA) point guard Kyron Cartwright pledged to Ed Cooley and the Friars. Cartwright is a 5’11 left handed speedster who is a pass-first point guard with room for development with his jump shot, according to scouts. He’d previously committed to Loyola-Marymount, but opened up his recruitment after the departure of head coach Max Good.
PC desperately needed to add a ball handler this spring, as they graduated All Big East point guard Bryce Cotton and return just one lead guard — Kris Dunn, who is recovering from his second shoulder surgery in two years. As Craig Belhumeur reported in late March, Cartwright’s high school coach, Tony Thomas, played AAU basketball with PC Associate Head Coach Andre Lafleur and the Friar staff had been familiar with Cartwright for months.
Friarbasketball.com had two recent features on Cartwright in the past two weeks, with Belhumeur speaking with Cartwright during his visit to PC, as well as Thomas and a local scout who’d covered Cartwright extensively. Craig Leighton featured him in the latest in his “Closer Look” feature.

Here’s a solid look at Cartwright from FriarTV.
