Friar Starting Five: Friday Edition

Links to five topics of interest that Friar fans may find interesting as they wait for Friday night’s hockey game against UMass-Lowell and Saturday’s basketball game against Xavier.

1. Ever wonder how when freshman guard Brandon Austin decided to transfer several people immediately said that Oregon may be a likely destination even though they had no inside knowledge? This article helps to explain how the University of Oregon is becoming the new Transfer U.

2. As many PC fans know, the Friars need to add two guards to their 2014 recruiting class. One of the best point guards still available is 6’2 Tarin Smith from St. Anthony’s in New Jersey. Yes, the same St. Anthony’s that is coached by the Hall of Fame high school coach Bob Hurley Sr. If you have access to SNY TV, Tarin and his St. Anthony’s team will be on  this weekend. 3. Kevin Stacom and Joe Hassett are having their jerseys retired this Saturday at halftime during the game against Xavier. Time for another flashback to a memorable time in PC history. This one may be painful, but it still should bring out some great memories for Friar fans:

4. Confused by the RPI system that the NCAA uses to help determine which teams make the NCAA Tournament? Ever see a listing of college basketball games on TV and wonder which teams you should be cheering for in order to help PC’s RPI rating? This nifty little tool will help you out. Just go to the Palm Reader on the right hand side, type in Providence where is says select a team hit enter and it will give you a list of teams you should be cheering for to win.
