Ben Bentil Putting in Work

2014 Providence commit Ben Bentil was featured in a Delaware Online story when he signed his letter of intent in November. The 6’8 Bentil stands out not only for his basketball prowess, however. He came to the United State from Ghana at 15 and quickly became one of the better power forward prospects in the class of 2014, yet through his recruitment Bentil stressed the importance of academics and told NBE Basketball in August that he maintained a 3.4 GPA at St. Andrew’s in Delaware.

In the Delaware Online feature (video) Terrell Myers, Bentil’s coach at St. Andrew’s, spoke of how Providence was a great fit for him because of head coach Ed Cooley and the smaller environment at PC. He also praised Bentil’s work ethic, noting that he takes anywhere from 500-1,000 jump shots before school starts every day.

“Academically he’s prepared, and athletically he’s prepared,” Myers said.

St. Andrew’s is off to a 1-3 start this season, recently playing Pennsylvania powerhouse Neumann-Goretti tough, falling 59-49 as Bentil scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
