Return of “PC in 7 Minutes” Videos – Providence versus Bryant

Our “PC in 7” video series returns tonight with a video from Providence’s 81-49 win over Bryant on Monday night.  For those not familiar with these videos, Friarbasketball.com condenses Friar games in seven minutes in case fans missed the game, or want to relive it.  This is also an effort to expand the Providence basketball library of videos available on Youtube.

While there weren’t many highlights from Bryant’s side last night, these videos will not simply be Friar highlight reels, but an attempt to capture a feel for the game in seven minutes.

In re-watching the game, a few more things stood out:

  • Bryce Cotton did a lot of damage off of the high screen and roll.  With the added responsibilities of leading the offense, combined with being a critical scorer on a team now featuring a mere six scholarship players, Cotton is perhaps the most indispensable of the remain six.  Ed Cooley will have to be creative in how he gets Cotton going offensively, and on this night it was via the high screen and roll and also by dumping the ball in to Kadeem Batts and running Cotton off of screens.  Batts did a solid job of drawing the defense and kicking it back out for good looks.
  • The offense looked a lot more like those at Boston College during Cooley’s days there, generating much of it from the high post.  Batts made a fine baseline cut late in the second half for a layup.
  • LaDontae Henton was terrific offensively in the open floor, but had more sloppy turnovers than he typically does.  His three point stroke was there last night, as he hit coming off of a screen at the top of the key and in transition.
  • The Friars had a terrific defensive possession in which they forced a shot clock violation, recovering and helping effectively.
