A Look Back: Providence Trounces Louisville, 90-59

Batts_ville

It was the night when everything went perfectly for the Friars.  With the 1987 Final Four team looking on, Providence defeated their former coach, Rick Pitino, for the second year in a row at the Dunkin Donuts Center behind a pair of 27 point nights from Bryce Cotton and Kadeem Batts, and were led by pace-setter Vincent Council’s 15 points, 14 rebounds and eight rebounds.

2012-13 Big East Preseason Player of the Year Peyton Siva was held to just two points and an assist, as the Cardinals struggled through their worst shooting night of the season, going 4-19 from three point range and 11-19 at the free throw line while going only 22-59 (37%) from the field overall.

The Friars shot a whopping 29 free throws (making 25 of them) behind a pair of players who didn’t get to the stripe all that frequently in 2011-12, as Cotton went 10-12 from the line and Batts made nine of 10.

Cotton’s 5-5 effort from three point range keyed a Friar outside attack that saw them shoot 60% from beyond the arc on the night.

Few would have predicted at that time that the Cards were Final Four bound.  The loss dropped them to 1-3 in the Big East.

The win snapped a four game losing streak for the Friars and gave them their first win in conference play.
