Prospects Lining Up for Late Night Madness

Brandon_Austin

Credit to Friarblog for breaking the news tonight that Tabor Academy power forward Jarred Reuter will attend Late Night Madness on Friday.

Reuter is a big bodied 6’8 power forward who I’ve long thought would make sense as a big man target for the Friars.  He’s a former 2014 prospect who looked to be part of the next wave of St. Mark’s stars (following in the footsteps of Erik Murphy, Nate Lubick, Alex Murphy, Melsahn Basabe, Kaleb Tarczewski and Nik Stauskas) along with point guard Kevin Zabo, but the duo has since landed elsewhere, with Zabo now at Brewster and Reuter starring at Tabor.

He reclassified to 2015 in the summer of 2011 after battling through an injury plagued freshman year at St. Mark’s.  He has since landed offers from UConn (this past July), Indiana, St. John’s, Florida, Boston College and Rutgers.  He’s a native of Rochester, MA – approximately 45 minutes from Providence’s campus.

For all of the depth that Ed Cooley as built, Reuter, a New England Playaz product, is a different type of player than what’s been brought in to date.  He’s a rugged post player who absorbs contact easily and passes well on the interior.  His skill and girth will make him one of the prized prospects in the class of 2015.

He’s the fourth prospect to have surfaced as a Late Night Madness attendee.

Recent 2013 commit Rodney Bullock was the first shoe to drop, while in the past two days news broke that 2014 Connecticut guard Kahari Beauford and Brandon Austin, ESPN’s 69th ranked player in the class of 2013 are also scheduled to attend.

The recruitment of Austin has been an interesting one for the Friars.  They were reportedly out of the running in early September, but continued to pursue the 6’6 Philadelphia native and worked their way back into consideration.  Landing him won’t be easy, however, as he’s being pursued vigorously by several elite schools.

He’s set to visit Connecticut the weekend following Madness, is hearing from Syracuse more recently, will visit UCLA and is also being recruited by Georgetown and Texas.  Austin would be a huge get for the Friars.
